For the first time since 1945, Spitfire Mark Vb BL628 has taken flight. Flown by Keith Skilling, BL628 took to the skies over Ardmore Aerodrome, New Zealand on September 29, 2007. This restoration has been in the works for nearly 30 years and it great to see a Vb flying once again.
WIX member Warbirdnerd reports that the Red Tail Project has achieved a milestone by having the wing delivered to Odegaard Wing Inc for rebuild. Most of the left wing will have to be new built but the group is hoping that around 60% of the right wing will be salvaged.
The target date for the first flight is the Summer of 2009.
