The Geneseo airshow represents a unique opportunity for the dedicated warbird fan since the entire event takes place on grass. With even a little imagination you can go back in time and watch a P-51 or a Spitfire take off from a grass strip in England heading towards France. The smell and sounds and proximity of these aircraft make this show a never miss for the staff at Warbirds-Online.
The volunteers at Historic Aircraft Group (HAG) are a big reason why this airshow is so entertaining. They are some of the nicest and helpful people you’ll ever run across and if you get a chance, give them a big thank you for making this wonderful event possible.
See you there!

Operation Bolero II: Epic P-38 Journey to England
May 23, 2007 11:39 pm
From a Press Release found on the Warbird Information Exchange

Philadelphia, PA (May 22, 2007) On July 15, 1942, a United States Army-Air Force Squadron took off from America to aid our allies in the war torn European theatre: this mission was known as Operation Bolero. Due to insurmountable obstacles en route, the entire squadron of six P-38s and two B-17 bombers was forced to abort their mission and make an emergency crash landing on a remote ice cap in Greenland.
More than fifty-years later, “The Lost Squadron,” as it has become known over time, was encased in 268 feet of ice and had drifted miles from its original location. A recovery and restoration mission, taking more than 10 years and one million dollars, was successfully completed and the P-38 Lightning re-christened “Glacier Girl” was restored to her original flying glory.
On June 23rd 2007, General Henry Arnold’s 65 year-old directive to ferry this P-38 lightning to England will finally be completed. “Glacier Girl”, accompanied by “Miss Velma”, a P-51 Mustang, will depart from Jet Aviation at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey bound for the Flying Legends Air Show in Duxford, England. This trans-Atlantic mission, dubbed Bolero II, after the original WWII operation, remains as challenging as it is historic.
The world’s most advanced and exciting aviation website, www.AirShowBuzz.Com will provide unprecedented access to the flight thanks to Wingspeed, a company specializing in tracking, voice, and text communication for the professional aviation community. Viewers will be able to send questions to the pilots while in flight and receive answers from the cockpit. Wingspeed’s satellite network will also allow real time tracking of “Glacier Girl’s” historic journey. Experience “Glacier Girl’s” epic journey live and exclusively on www.AirShowBuzz.Com.

CAF/ODS Tracker Update
May 7, 2007 5:29 pmReported by WIX Member coldaffyduck:
“Here is an update for everybody; 3 crew members are back home in VA, one member should be released from the hospital today, and it looks like the fifth crew member will be in the hospital for several more weeks.”
As the image below (source unknown) shows, the Tracker’s destruction was nearly total with barely any recognizable remains. It’s amazing that anybody survived the crash much less everybody. More pictures are available from the Warbird Information Exchange (WIX) thread
The staff of the Warbirds Resource Group would like to extend our best wish for the speedy recovery of those injured in the crash.

Fly a T-6 in 2007!
January 8, 2007 8:56 amIt would have been more poetic to say “fly a T-6 in 2006″… but alas, that year has past and now we have a roaring 2007 to look forward to!
And what a better way to celebrate 2007 in full warbird fashion than to fly aboard an AT-6 Texan Advanced Trainer! Whether you are a pilot or just an enthusiast, several touring organizations offer full ride/flight packages to would-be dogfighters all across the nation.
Two of the major groups have announced their 2007 schedule, and we are pleased to offer them to you here on Wartbirds-Online.
The Kissimmee, FL based Warbird Adventures will be operating in Kissimmee until June when they will move North for a bit and offer flights out of New London, CT and Geneseo, NY. See their full 2007 schedule at this website.
North American Top Gun, based in St. Augustine, FL, will be touring to quite a few cities nationwide this season and may just be in a location near you! Check their schedule at this page for all 2007 dates posted.
Want a little overview of flying the T-6 before you take to the skies? Read through this brief pilot report by aviation writer Budd Davidson for a sneak peak.

January 4, 2007 10:47 am
Coming up this Saturday, January 6th, the Planes of Fame Air Museum will be holding its first monthly event of 2007 in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of its founding. Started on January 12th, 1957 in Claremont, CA by Ed Maloney, the Air Museum “Planes of Fame” has grown from a humble roadside attraction to one of the leading warbird museums in the world. Now located on the warbird-famous Chino Airport in Chino, CA, the Planes of Fame museum posesses a collection of nearly 150 aircraft at the Chino and Arizona facilities.
The January 6th event will also celebrate the dedication of its newest display hangar as well.
The event starts at 10:00 AM at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino and will conclude with a warbird demonstration flight.
See more information in the Highland Community News article of January 4th.
