This former RCN aircraft was purchased by Ivan Gustin in 1966, registered as CF-JJB and converted into a sprayer. While on contract in Greece it was destroyed in a crash near Agrinion on October 16, 1967.
It was not unusual for Avengers that had been converted to sprayers or tankers to have there canopies radically modified. In some models this was done because of the removal of the turret, with the resulting opening faired over with sheet metal. Sometimes the rear portions of the canopy were just painted over. This aircraft sports one of the most unusual canopy modifications I have ever seen on a tanker/sprayer. What could be the purpose of this mod? Training? Observation? If you have an idea please comment.
